The Charis Centre - Information
Practical Help. Whatever your decision, we will continue to offer care and support as appropriate. This could include:
practical help with baby equipment, accommodation, befriending support, etc
information on adoption and referral for adoption counselling, if requested
information on other local and national helping agencies
free, confidential counselling following abortion, however long ago.
Friendly and Caring Support. One of our trained counsellors will be on hand to listen and offer support if you want someone to talk to confidentially. An unplanned pregnancy may not be your crisis - you may have other concerns which are making your pregnancy difficult.
Perhaps you were looking forward to having a baby, but now something has happened and you don't know whether you can cope. Don't be pressured into a hasty decision - give yourself time and space to think and find out what help is available.
Whatever your situation, we will provide a calm and unpressured environment for you to think through your next steps.
A Note For Men. We welcome enquiries from men as well as women because we recognise that men can also be deeply affected by a pregnancy or abortion.
It can also be hard for men to obtain information or find someone to talk to confidentially, as these things are sometimes just dismissed as "women's issues". Whether you are a partner, father or other concerned relative, we are happy to talk to you confidentially and offer appropriate help where we can.
Supporting your partner at this time of crisis is very important. Being there to listen and talk honestly with her will help both of you to cope with the situation.
Get as much information as you can and don't base your decision on your first reaction. Allow yourselves time and space to think through the options.
